This portal is designed to support the bioinformatics needs of the students, staff, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and its affiliates.

The portal is designed based upon the following definition of bioinformatics generated by the NIH Biomedical Information Science and Technology Initiative Consortium.

"Research, development, or application of computational tools and approaches for expanding the use of biological, medical, behavioral or health data, including those to acquire, store, organize, archive, analyze, or visualize such data."
